Today is Flag Day. I want to thank the Boy Scouts for adding to the day with the additional flags that they have put up through out the city. Here is the one in front of our condo.
Update Clarification - The Boy Scouts put flags up in front of homes through out the community. The Ferndale Kiwanis Club puts them up on Main Street.
Update 6/16 - The boy scout troop that is doing this is Troop #483. Thanks guys
Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, though on June 14, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday. Title 36 of the United States Code, Subtitle I, Part A, CHAPTER 1, § 110[2] is the official statute on Flag Day; however, it is at the President's discretion to proclaim officially the observance.

ReplyDeleteFerndale Kiwanis puts up the flags on Main Street. You seem to suggest that the flags around town are put up by the Boy Scouts. Kiwanis has put flags up on Main Street for many years on major holidays plus many patriotic days such as Flag Day, Pearl Harbor Day and September 11.

Which Boy Scout troop put the flags out? I think it would be proper to give that troop credit for their hard work, as there are several troops in the local area.
